Spanish Conversation for the Health Professions I
Description:This introductory course is designed for those in the health professions who wish to acquire the basic tools for effective communication with the Hispanic patient. The language is taught in the context of specific situations with extensive practice and a minimal amount of grammar. The course also contains an important cultural component that will allow the student to gain a greater knowledge and understanding of Hispanics, and thus to create a better, safer, and productive environment. This course is of interest to a wide range of health professionals such as nurses, physicians, psychologists, counselors, paramedics, medical assistants, athletic trainers, physical trainers, physical therapists, pharmacy technicians, clinicians, and administrative staff. This course is conducted in Spanish. Portions of instruction may be offered online; may also be offered fully online.
Recommended Preparation:SPAN 1S (or SPAN 1SA or SPAN 35A) OR SPAN 3 (or SPAN 2A) OR students should be heritage speakers of Spanish or other linguistically qualified students; fluency in both English and Spanish is strongly recommended

 ONLINE COURSE (LIVE ONLINE CLASS MEETINGS): This online course requires students to attend live online class sessions during the scheduled class time. Students shall meet online during the specific times shown above for online class activities plus dedicate additional time for studying and homework. This online class is taught using CANVAS and VIDEO CONFERENCING (camera-on requirement). Click on the Lobo Apps link on the MPC website to access Canvas, your MPC e-mail, and other online tools. Visit the Canvas Help Desk for help accessing your online course. Students must have regular access to a computer with high-speed Internet, be familiar with using the Internet, and have speakers and a working video camera with microphone to participate. Students will be required to keep cameras on during class sessions in order to effectively participate in course activities. This is a Zero-Textbook-Cost (ZTC) course. Any required course content or materials are freely available online or will be provided by the College at no cost to students.
