Introductory Chemistry for Health Sciences |
Description: | This is an introductory chemistry course covering the principles of inorganic and organic chemistry. It is designed for students intending to enter many health science fields. The course is appropriate for most baccalaureate programs in nursing, dental hygiene, family and consumer science, and kinesiology. Does not meet chemistry requirements for pre-medicine, pre-dentistry, or laboratory technician majors. Portions of instruction may be offered online; may also be offered fully online.
Prerequisite: High school algebra or higher, or eligibility for transfer-level mathematics |
Recommended Preparation: | Completion of or concurrent enrollment in ENGL 1A or ENGL 1AE |

| HYBRID-FLEXIBLE COURSE: This course offers in-person meetings at the MPC Marina Education Center, 289 12th Street, Marina, CA 93933 with the option of attending live online class sessions in Zoom instead AND requires students to complete additional class time on their own time to meet established due dates each week. | ONLINE COURSE (LIVE ONLINE CLASS MEETINGS): This
online course requires students to attend live online class sessions Thursdays from 5:45 p.m.-8:50 p.m.. Students shall meet online during the specific times shown above for online class activities plus dedicate additional time for studying and homework. This class is taught using CANVAS. Students must have regular access to a computer with high-speed Internet, be familiar with using the Internet, and have speakers and a working video camera with microphone to participate. This course requires access to an online textbook publisher platform independent from Canvas. Students can purchase an access code for the platform through the MPC Bookstore or the publisher. Students are
encouraged to contact the Student Equity Lending Library for assistance obtaining required class textbooks that they may not be able to purchase on their own. Resources are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Students will complete labs using a lab kit that costs approximately $150 and students will also need to provide common household substances such as salt, sugar, etc. |
