Public Safety Dispatch
Description:This course is designed to provide necessary and required continuing professional training to public safety dispatchers as required by The Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.). It covers radio procedures, radio systems, telephone procedures, call taking, legal updates, call taking, available resources, officer safety considerations, and emergency dispatching and prioritization techniques. The course is P.O.S.T. certified.
Recommended Preparation:Eligibility for ENGL 1A
Limits on Enrollment:Prerequisite (Non-Course): Commission on Police Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) certified basic dispatch academy diploma or equivalent as determined by the Dean of Academy Instruction. NOTE: Approval of equivalent training is not a guarantee state regulatory or licensing agencies will also grant equivalency. Basic Skills Advisory (Non-Course): Prior to beginning this course students must already be familiar with, and be able to demonstrate all of the skills listed below. These will not be taught in the course; rather, they will be the starting point for advanced officer training that builds upon them. These minimum knowledge and skill levels are regarding: - Communication Technology -Telephone Procedures - Radio Procedures - Resources/Referral Services - California State Department of - Justice Telecommunications
Repeatability:May be repeated once if grade was D or F.
