Field Training Program |
Description: | This variable-hour practicum course introduces employees to the job requirements of the law enforcement officer, including legal aspects, procedures, policies, and agency protocols. The course provides necessary training, supervision, and performance assessment of a California law enforcement officer-trainee. This course meets minimum certification standards required by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) and is mandated for all California Peace Officers according to POST regulation. For non-POST agencies, the course may be certified as determined by the agency. |
Limits on Enrollment: | 1. Commission on Police Officer Standards & Training (POST) certified basic law enforcement academy diploma or equivalent as determined by the Dean of Academy Instruction. NOTE: Approval of equivalent training is not a guarantee state regulatory or licensing agencies will also grant equivalency. 2. Prior to beginning this course students must already be familiar with, and be able to demonstrate all of the skills listed below. These will not be taught in the course; rather, they will be the starting point for advanced officer training that builds upon them. These minimum knowledge and skill levels are regarding: Officer safety Proper and safe firearms handling Proper and safe tactical movement Proper and safe arrest and control technique Familiarity with Vehicle codes used in policing Familiarity with Health & Safety codes used in policing Effective verbal communication used in policing |
