Vice Investigations
Description:This course is designed for students responsible for handling crimes related to prostitution, human trafficking, and a variety of nuisance crimes (animal fighting, gambling, loitering, piracy, and lewd and lascivious acts). Students in this course are exposed to a series of various scenarios, including ABC buy/ bust exercises, prostitution stings, undercover surveillance practicals, and use of website searches for out-calls. This course also provides training on technology used to commit crimes (the internet), technology available to solve crimes, the proper use of informants, and legal considerations and ethical issues.
Limits on Enrollment:1. Commission on Police Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) certified basic law enforcement academy diploma or equivalent as determined by the Dean of Academy Instruction. NOTE: Approval of equivalent training is not a guarantee state regulatory or licensing agencies will also grant equivalency. 2. Prior to beginning this course students must already be familiar with, and be able to demonstrate all of the skills listed below. These will not be taught in the course; rather, they will be the starting point for advanced officer training that builds upon them. These minimum knowledge and skill levels are regarding: Familiarity with evidence collection and documentation, Familiarity with report writing, Knowledge of crime scenes, Familiarity with search warrants, Familiarity with interviewing techniques.
Repeatability:May be repeated once if grade was D or F.
