LETP 209
Sexual Assault Investigation
Description:The course is designed to give students a balance between a police officer's duties in handling sexual assault cases and being sensitive to and aware of the victim's needs. Attention is given to the psychological as well as the physical trauma a rape victim encounters. The legal aspects of the case are also emphasized.
Limits on Enrollment:1. Commission on Police Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) certified basic law enforcement academy diploma or equivalent as determined by the Dean of Academy Instruction. NOTE: Approval of equivalent training is not a guarantee state regulatory or licensing agencies will also grant equivalency. 2. Prior to beginning this course students must already be familiar with, and be able to demonstrate all of the skills listed below. These will not be taught in the course; rather, they will be the starting point for advanced officer training that builds upon them. These minimum knowledge and skill levels are regarding: Familiarity with sex crimes, Familiarity with evidence, Knowledge of crime scenes, Familiarity with search warrants, Knowledge of investigative report writing techniques.
Repeatability:May be repeated once if grade was D or F.
