Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in American Society
Description:This course is a comparative analysis of how Asian Pacific American communities have adjusted to the American democratic systems over the past century. Their access to legal rights as refugees, alien residents, nationals, and citizens at the federal, state, and local levels is examined. The course also explores their varied expectations, successes, patterns of assimilation or accommodation, and resistance within the context of federal constitution and varied legal institutions by diverse Asian Pacific American ethnic communities. Also offered as Ethnic Studies 22; credit may be earned only once. Portions of instruction may be offered online; also offered fully online.
