Foundations of the Modern World (1600-1690) |
Description: | This period was one in which the foundation for the modern world is established. Although there were devastating religious wars and the creation of the absolute state by Louis XIV in France, the lasting impact of this period is evident in the emergence of democracy in England, the revolutionary philosophies of Descartes and Hobbes, the art of Rubens, Rembrandt, and Vermeer, and the poetry of the ultimate Protestant and democrat, John Milton. |
