Elementary Statistics
Description:This course covers the use of probability techniques, hypothesis testing, and predictive techniques to facilitate decision-making. Topics include descriptive statistics; probability and sampling distributions; statistical inference; correlation and linear regression; analysis of variance, chi-square and t-tests; and application of technology for statistical analysis, including the interpretation of the relevance of the statistical findings. It covers applications using data from disciplines including business, social sciences, psychology, life science, health science, and education. This course also contains a computer component. Calculations are done with the aid of a desktop computer or with a handheld calculator/computer having built-in functions. Portions of instruction may be offered online; also offered fully online. Prerequisites:Qualifying math assessment results or MATH 260 or MATH 263 or an equivalent course from an accredited college
Recommended Preparation:Eligibility for ENGL 1A

Students will be requested to look at video lectures using Pearson Publishing’s MyMathLab system outside of class, so they must have access to a reliable computer with internet access. In class, students will use MyMathLab to do classwork and to take quizzes and tests. Students will be able to gain access to the MyMathLab materials the first day of class and will then have two weeks to make a credit card payment. The cost of these materials is approximately $105.
