Supervisor Course |
Description: | This course emphasizes the basic elements of supervision and how they may be applied to police work. Essentials of good leadership, understanding of the basic needs of human beings, ways to stimulate subordinates to better performance, and conflict resolution are the contents of the course, as outlined by the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.). It is designed for new sergeants. |
Limits on Enrollment: | Prerequisite (Non-Course):
Commission on Police Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) certified basic law enforcement academy diploma or equivalent as determined by the Dean of Academy Instruction. NOTE: Approval of equivalent training is not a guarantee state regulatory or licensing agencies will also grant equivalency
Basic Skills Advisory (Non-Course):
Prior to beginning this course students must already be familiar with, and be able to demonstrate all of the skills listed below. These will not be taught in the course; rather, they will be the starting point for advanced officer training that builds upon them. These minimum knowledge and skill levels are regarding:
- Familiarity with Leadership and professionalism and Ethics
- Familiarity with Cultural Diversity and Discrimination |
