Advanced Peace Officer Training
Description:This course covers a series of topics designed to provide updated training in arrest and control techniques, racial profiling, legal updates, defensive tactics, and domestic violence. This training meets the requirements of the California Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training.
Prerequisites:(Non-Course): Students must possess a valid California Driver's License to participate in pursuit driving skills; AND Students must have P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate to participate in police training
Limits on Enrollment:Commission on Police Officer Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) certified basic law enforcement academy diploma or equivalent as determined by the Dean of Academy Instruction. NOTE: Approval of equivalent training is not a guarantee state regulatory or licensing agencies will also grant equivalency. Prior to beginning this course students must already be familiar with, and be able to demonstrate all of the skills listed below. These will not be taught in the course; rather, they will be the starting point for advanced officer training that builds upon them. These minimum knowledge and skill levels are regarding: Familiarity with Officer safety, Familiarity with firearms, Knowledge of tactical movement, Familiarity with arrest and control technique, Familiarity with ground fighting technique, Familiarity with handling and use of nonlethal weapons, Familiarity with Penal codes used in policing, Familiarity with Vehicle codes used in policing, Familiarity with Health & Safety codes used in policing, Familiarity with effective verbal communication used in policing, Familiarity effective non-verbal communication used in policing, Familiarity with case law pertinent to policing.
Repeatability:May be repeated once if grade was D or F.
